Most Rev. Anthony Poola, D.D.,

Archbishop of Hyderabad

Most Rev. Anthony Poola was born on 15th November 1961 in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. He joined the minor seminary in Kurnool and then studied at St. Peter’s Pontifical Major Seminary, Bengaluru. He was ordained a priest on 20th February 1992 for the Diocese of Kadapa and later he was appointed the Bishop of Kurnool consecrated on 19th April, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral, Kurnool.
On 19th November 2020, Most Rev. Anthony Poola, Bishop of Kurnool was appointed the 5th Metropolitan Archbishop of Hyderabad and he was installed on 3rd January 2021. Archbishop Most Rev.Dr. Anthony Poola was elevated as 1st Cardinal from telugu states by his Holiness Pope Francis during Angelus on 29th May 2022. He was inducted into the college of Cardinals at an Ordinary Public Consistory on August 27th 2022 by his Holiness Pope Francis. Our Hyderabad Metropolitan Archbishop is one of the 21 new cardinals.
